Fundraising dress code is hiking boots and diamonds!

HERE'S a diamond of a chance to raise money for the Marie Curie Hospice, Penarth.

A sponsored 10km walk will take place around Cardiff Bay on June 21 - the lightest night of the year - which will raise money for the Hospice.

The aptly titled Diamonds At Dusk walk will be diamond-themed to celebrate Marie Curie Cancer Care's 60th anniversary.

So participants are being called upon to dress in anything with a sparkle to add to the occasion!

As well as marking Marie Curie Cancer Care's diamond anniversary, the event will also raise money for the Red Dragon Help A South Wales Child charity, which supports disadvantaged children in the area.

Starting at the Red Dragon Centre, the route will go through Cardiff Bay and over the Barrage with its spectacular views, and on to Penarth Marina.

The route then meanders through Penarth to the Marie Curie Hospice, and follows the same route back to the Red Dragon Centre.

Among the walkers will be Red Dragon journalists Beth Cowley, Lauren Jones and News Editor Vicky Etchells.

The journalists will be joined by Jan Suart, a former Marie Curie Nurse of the Year who works at the Hospice.

And they are encouraging people of all ages and abilities to participate in the walk.

"The walk is a great opportunity for local people and communities to come together and raise funds for two important local charities," said Beth Cowley.

Jan Suart continued: "The Marie Curie Hospice, Penarth is one of ten Marie Curie Hospices in the UK. It offers specialist care for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

"All of these services are free of charge and we depend on the generosity of the public to fund our work - so please do join us on June 21!"

The walk is just £10 for adults and £5 for children to enter, and entry is available at www.reddragonfm.com/charity or by calling in to the Red Dragon or Marie Curie Hospice Penarth reception.
