THE family of a Penarth man who was killed in a head-on car crash have described the 31-year-old as a ‘fantastic father’.

Christopher Salter died when his VW Golf was involved in a collision with a Toyota Yaris, on the A4231 Barry Docks link road late on Friday (March 13).

A front seat passenger in the Toyota Yaris, 80-year-old Ena Delaney of Barry, also died.

In a tribute to Mr Salter, his family said: “Chris was a much loved son to Andrew and Julia, fantastic father to Ethan and adored uncle to Alicia, Coel and Jayley.

“He was a very popular person with loads of friends.

“He was a keen gardener and enjoyed riding motorcycles. “Everyone who knew him liked him, and he would do anything for anyone," they added.

“He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.”

Mrs Delaney, 80, was on the way home from a meal to celebrate her son's 50th birthday when the collision happened.

Her family, who in a tribute called her ‘our beloved mum’, said she spent the evening in a Cardiff restaurant with 16 relatives.

"She said goodnight to all her family outside the restaurant at approximately 11pm, expecting to see them all over the next day or two,” they said.

"Sadly, on the way home from the restaurant a tragic accident took away our beloved mum.”

Three other people in the Toyota suffered injuries.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which took place at 11.20pm on the A4231 at its junction with Cold Brook Road East, Cadoxton.

South Wales Police said the the two vehicles - a red VW Golf and black Toyota Yaris - were travelling in opposite directions along the Link Road.

Any witnesses to the collision or to the driving of either vehicle beforehand are asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 029 20 222 111.
