A YEAR 9 team from Stanwell School took part in the inaugural Real Business Challenge held at the SWALEC Stadium, home of Glamorgan Cricket, on Thursday, June 25.
Created and organised by Coca-Cola Enterprises, in partnership with Glamorgan Cricket and Edexcel, the Real Business Challenge is designed to support the enterprise curriculum in schools.
The Challenge was set to design a new soft drink for a major sporting event in Wales and the students were provided with a manufacturing and marketing budget, together with production, distribution and pricing guidelines.
Real Radio worked with the teams to record a radio commercial for their products, whilst Comms Creative provided guidance on graphics and billboard advertising.
The judging panel - Jim Fox, Head of Public Affairs, Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd; Andrea Meyrick, CEO, Education Business Partner; Leigh Taylor, Head of Creative, Real Radio and Matthew Maynard, Director of Cricket, Glamorgan Cricket - watched a four-minute presentation from each school and based their selection on teamwork, creativity, financial control and presentation skills.
Other schools taking part were Cyfarthfa High; Lewis Boys; Ysgol Plasmawr; Bishop Gore; Cathays; and Bishop of Llandaff High School.
Bishop of Llandaff were crowned winners, with Lewis Boys runners-up.
