A TRIO of advertising agencies have been hired to boost the fortunes of a Penarth scouting group.
A consortium led by Penarth-based Folio Typographics, on Coleridge Avenue, and Cardiff firms Designdough and Spot On Events & Communications, is behind a plan to help attract members to the Penarth District Scouts.
Their brief is to produce a marketing campaign aimed at increasing the number of adult volunteers from Penarth, Cogan, Llandough, Dinas Powys and Sully.
Other events include a re-branding exercise, a new website supplying local and regional PR, outdoor advertising and organising a scouting adventure in May 2010.
Nick Thomas, District Commissioner for Penarth Scouts, said: “The tender submission from Folio’s consortium was the clear winner with our council.
“We could see both real value for money and a clear lucid approach that will be effective. Our being able to work with three experienced local companies is also a major plus factor.
“We are very excited about it and the whole of Penarth Scouting is behind what we are trying to achieve.”
The campaign targets adults to help back the movement, whether as uniformed leaders or in support roles.
Although a localised campaign, the problem of recruiting sufficient adult volunteers to support scouting groups is a national concern .
It is hoped the campaign will serve as a flagship model that can be rolled out to scout groups across the UK.
Vanessa Bowerman, of Folio Typographics, said: “This project really appealed to me when I received the brief, but I realised that for this campaign to be effective it would need more than a great design for marketing material.
“We are certain we have achieved something exciting and effective, but more importantly, our work will benefit Penarth District Scouting in the long term.”
The media campaign will start this month and run through to May 2010.
