A DINAS POWYS man has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list.
Professor Danny Saunders, head of the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Glamorgan, was honoured for his services to higher education.
His background is in Psychology and Education, with a keen interest in the development of innovative teaching and learning methods, especially when applied to social inclusion and widening participation by non-traditional students within higher education.
Professor Saunders has published more than 100 articles within the fields of simulation gaming, access and student centred learning - and co-authored and edited books including Key Concepts in Communication and Cultural Studies, The Complete Student Handbook and The International Simulation and Gaming Research Yearbook.
He also contributes to a wide range of lifelong learning committees and working groups including the Education Broadcasting Council for Wales, Niace Dysgu Cymru and the UK Learning and Teaching Subject Centres Steering Group.
"I'm absolutely delighted," said Professor Saunders.
"I've been working to make education more accessible for disadvantaged groups for the best part of 31 years.
"To be awarded an OBE is overwhelming."
Professor Saunders was joined by Status Quo frontmen Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi, together with Formula One team owner Ross Brawn, in being awarded an OBE.
