THE Station pub, Cogan, has been named Pub of the Year by Wales’ leading pub company SA Brain and Co Ltd, and Licensees Tony Stephens and Tina Escott collected the award at a ceremony held in Cardiff.

Richard Davies, Sales and Marketing Director at Brains, said: “This was an excellent opportunity for us to celebrate the best of our pubs and the people, and in addition recognise the individual strengths that each pub has to offer. Tony and Tina have had an excellent year and this award is richly deserved.”

Tony and Tina have been running the pub for the last two and a half years. In that time they have completely refurbished and redecorated the lounge and beer garden and installed a new kitchen, from where Tina cooks classic pub meals and Sunday lunches. With the support of their generous customers they have also raised thousands for local good causes.

Three other awards were handed out on the night. The Star in Treoes picked up the food pub of the year award, the Seagull in Porthcawl was named best community pub and the Railway Tavern in Tredegar was rewarded for its customer service excellence.

The pubs were in competition with more than 160 other Brains owned pubs.
