FOLLOWING changes in the membership of the Comite de Jumelage in St Pol de Leon, which has led to the inactivity of that organisation and the retirement of the long serving Mayor Monsieur Adrien Kervella, Penarth Town Council has found it difficult to maintain links with the town.

However, contact has now been re-established with the new Mayor of St Pol de Leon, Monsieur Nicolas Floc, and it has been agreed by both towns that the level of exchanges between the two be investigated and an attempt made to revitalise the twinning link.

Chairman of the Town Twinning Committee, Cllr Clive A Williams MBE, said: "The twinning link between the two towns has been in existence for 40 years this year, and the Town Council owes it to those who put a great deal of effort and enthusiasm into developing the link over the years, to do its utmost to keep the link active.

"The Town Council will, with the Twinning Association, try to revitalise the link and hopefully mark the occasion in a manner worthy of the 40th Anniversary.

"Clearly many of the stalwarts of earlier St Pol de Leon and Penarth Twinning encounters are no longer with us," added Cllr Williams.

"So I throw out a challenge to residents of all ages, to take up the baton to re-establish the twinning links – which can be of benefit to so many people of Penarth in the future."

If you or an organisation you belong to are continuing to maintain a link with a like organisation in St Pol de Leon, or if your organisation is interested in establishing a link, Penarth Town Council and the Penarth Twinning Association would like to hear from you.
