CARDIFF South and Penarth constituency candidates Sian Cliff (Liberal Democrats), Vaughan Gething (Labour), and Liz Musa (Plaid Cymru), together with Green Party representative Jake Griffiths, have been out and about in Penarth, campaigning for a ‘YES’ vote in the March National Assembly Referendum.

"In May, our parties will challenge each other for seats in the National Assembly - but before that, until March 3, we will all work together to make sure that the Assembly that we contest will be able to function in the most effective way possible," they said, in a joint statement.

"It’s not about more powers. The twenty subject areas that are already the responsibility of the Assembly will stay the same.

"It’s about ensuring that decisions that affect Wales in those 20 areas - such as health and education - are taken in Wales by the Assembly members elected to represent the people of Wales. Laws that only affect Wales should be made in Wales.

"At the moment, the Assembly must ask permission from Westminster and the House of Lords before it can pass new laws within the 20 areas. This is a long, complicated and bureaucratic process and it can take years to complete," they added.

"Even where all parties in the Assembly agree on the need, the current process can delay vital decisions that would benefit the people of Wales.

"This referendum is about one thing only; speeding up the process to enable the Assembly to do its job more efficiently and effectively."
