ARRANGEMENTS for this year's Summer Festival are well in hand!

The Festival will run from July 7 to 17, with the Carnival Day and Fireworks Display on July 9.

The programme has something for everyone to enjoy and the is again the Pirates of Penarth.

The free programme of events will be inserted into the June 23 issue of the Penarth Times and you can look forward to the following activities on Carnival Day:

* Funfair rides and children's entertainment

* The Summer Festival Parade

* RNLI / RAF (Sea King Helicopter) rescue display

* RAF Spitfire and Lancaster Display

* Donkey Rides from the Cliff Top

* Police dog display (Cliff top)

* Water Ski displays by Penarth Water Ski Club

* Downhill Derby (Cliff Hill)

* Punch and Judy on the Pier

* Great food and refreshments from local traders

* Variety of stalls along the Esplanade

* Live Entertainment and great local bands

* Firework display

Carnival Day will start with the Parade gathering outside at West House at 12.15pm and will end with the traditional Fireworks Display off the Pier at 10pm. If you / your school / or organisation would like to be part of the parade, contact the Town Council for an entry form.

At 12.15pm a Classic Car, Motorcycle and Pirates of Penarth Fancy Dress Parade will assemble and be judged in the grounds of West House. The parade will travel along Stanwell Road, Bradenham Place, Hickman Road through the Town Centre to Beach Road and the Esplanade, where the prizegiving will take place. The walking entries will be accompanied by the Samba Band, a professional walking band.

This event is open to all but if you have any special needs or concerns in relation to Carnival Day, contact Keri Hutchings at the Town Council.

This year for the fourth time and in addition to the Esplanade activities, Penarth Youth Project (PYP), Vale Youth Service will be staging an event ‘L8R’ for 13-17 year olds in the Kymin House and grounds from 6pm to 10.30pm.

To make the event easier to steward, the gates of both Windsor Gardens and Alexandra Park will close at 6pm on July 9.

The programme will be distributed through schools, door to door, via the usual outlets throughout the town and in public buildings, or it can be downloaded from the Town Council’s Events page on the website www.penarthtowncouncil.gov.uk soon.
