THIS year’s Richard Buckley Cup will be contested on Saturday, August 27 at Cogan recreation ground, from 2pm.

The ninth annual ‘it’s a knockout’ style tournament will have a cartoon characters fancy dress theme, and will run until 5pm - when the party will continue with karaoke at the Station Hotel.

Cogan Chiefs cricket team will be dressed as characters from Gnomeo and Juliet, Cogan Girls will be 101 Dalmations characters, the Ysgol Ewr’r Delyn team will be dressed as babies, and the Top House Pub representatives will be Loony Toons.

Last year contestants dressed as Elvis, the Bay City Rollers, Kiss, Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse, as they battled it out in egg-throwing contests, bungee rope runs, and boxing kangaroo bouts. More than £1,600 was raised for charity.

This year there will also be face-painting, a bouncy castle, a coconut shy and much more to entertain the kids.

Raffle prizes include a Welsh rugby jersey signed by the players who beat England at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Money raised from this year’s event will be donated to Erw'r Delyn School in Penarth and to the Firefighters' Charity.
