Asda Cardiff Bay bags £10,000 for Marie Curie Hospice Penarth and Velindre

TWO local Asda stores have donated almost £10,000 to the Marie Curie Hospice Penarth and Velindre Cancer Centre.

The Cardiff Bay and Leckwith Road stores raised the money through the 5p carrier bag charges introduced in October 2011.

In total the Leckwith Road store raised £4,237.86 and the Bay store £5,020.40. Cheques for equal amounts were given to each of the charities.

Jenny Hurley, Community life champion at Asda, Leckwith Road, said: "I'm sure many of your readers shop at our local stores, and it would be encouraging for them to know that their 5p charges have been donated to genuine charitable causes.

"One hundred per cent of the money from the charges goes to the charities."
