LOCALS and visitors alike are invited to enjoy a Penarth gardening nirvana this weekend.
The town’s green-fingered community will open their doors - and garden - on Saturday and Sunday for the Open Gardens Trail organised by Anne Lush MBE.
Some of Penarth's finest lawns, shrubs, and greenery will be on show in the 16th annual garden ramble, which has raised more than £5,000 for the Children’s Society in each of the last three
years.
Nine gardens, plus allotments, make up the trail this year, with the gardens open from 10am until 6pm on Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday.
The addresses are: 68 Redlands Road – refreshments available (Sunday hours - 2pm to 5pm); 77 Coleridge Ave - well known local artist selling cards etc; Waltham House Bradford Place - croquet on the
lawn plus a children's corner, also serving tea and coffee (Sat only); 82 Plymouth Road – plants (Sat only); 1 Cosmeston Cottages - tea and coffee; 118a Lavernock Road - plants; 135 Westbourne Road
(Sat only); the Sully Terrace Allotments located on Westbourne Road (Sat only); 6 St Peters Road - disabled facilities available (Sunday hours - 2pm to 5pm); 4 Tudor Close, Westbourne Road -
refreshments all day, including filled rolls, cream teas, homemade cakes, chutneys, jams, marmalades etc.
Admission to the gardens is by rover ticket for £5 (children enter free). They can be purchased at all gardens.
Complimentary tea or coffee is included in the entry price, also on sale - plants plus a super raffle.
Organiser Ann, who lives at 4 Tudor Close with husband Dennis, said:"People look forward to this event all year. It’s become part of the Penarth social calender, which is quite something.
"It’s just gone from strength to strength. We attract people from far and wide and expect hundreds of people over the weekend.
"Lets just pray this magnificent weather lasts."
All proceeds raised over the weekend go to the Children’s Society.
