THE Olympic Torch Relay received an outstanding reception when it passed through the area in May, with thousands of spectators lining the streets - and now local residents have the chance to see the Paralympic Torch up close.

Sole sponsor of the games, Sainsbury’s, is hosting a torch relay which will see three torches travel to 61 stores across the country in just ten days ahead of the start of the games on August 29.

And it will stop at the Windsor Road store in Penarth on Sunday (August 19) from 2pm to 4pm.

The torch visiting Penarth is just one of 620 to be used in the 24-hour relay, which starts at Stoke Mandeville in Aylesbury - the home of the Paralympic Movement - on Tuesday, August 28, and ends at the Olympic Park in Stratford, London, on Wednesday, August 29.

Sainsbury's sponsorship manager Jat Sahota said: "We've really enjoyed playing our part in raising awareness of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. “The Paralympic Torch Experience gives our customers a once in a lifetime chance to hold the torch and feel the buzz of the Paralympic Games, which is now just a couple of weeks away."
