Green-fingered Penarth folk rewarded for their perfect plots
EVERY year Penarth Town Council holds an annual competition for the best kept plot at the Leisure Garden sites throughout Penarth - at Harbour View, Paget Terrace, Windsor Road, Sully Terrace and Cogan.
Previously the competition had been part of the Penarth Horticultural Society's Annual Show but that is not taking place this year.
The Town Mayor Cllr Philip Rapier held a reception at West House on August 20, to award prizes for the overall winners of the competition and to also further commemorate each individual site winner.
As usual the competition was of a high standard with Sully Terrace proving to be the benchmark site in the town with which all gardens would be compared.
This year's winners were as follows:
Overall Winners of the 2012 Leisure Garden Competition
1st: Mr D Allen-Oliver - Sully Terrace
2nd: Alan Evans - Sully Terrace Joint
Joint 3rd: Colin Wearmouth - Sully Terrace
Joint 3rd: Colin Ward - Cogan
Joint 3rd: Alan Leeson
Best Kept Plots
Sully Terrace - Mr D Allen-Oliver
Cogan - Colin Ward
Harbour View - Mr Hewish
Paget Terrace - Melanie Andrews
Windsor Road - Alan Leeson
The Town Mayor Cllr Rapier congratulated all the individual winners for maintaining their plots to such a high standard and wished them all the best - particularly in light of the inclement weather that they all had to endure this year.
Many of the other plots throughout the sites had been close contenders and their efforts will hopefully be rewarded in the future.
