THE London 2012 Paralympic Games started yesterday - and Penarth residents had the chance to see the Paralympic Torch up close at the town's Sainsburys store recently.

Among those who held the torch were Ceri Evans and her son Alfie Morgan, two, who are pictured with Danny Leech of Sainsburys; and Penarth Sainsburys store employee James Duddridge and 102-year-old family friend Margaret Hilson of Penarth.

Sainsbury’s is the first ever sole sponsor of the Paralympic Games, which run until September 9.

Sainsbury’s Sponsorship Manager Jat Sahota said: “We’ve really enjoyed playing our part in raising awareness of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

"The Paralympic Torch Experience gave our customers a once in a lifetime chance to hold the Torch and feel the buzz of the Paralympic Games!"
