STAFF from Penarth's Bangladeshi restaurant Jaflon are set to take part in the annual Cardiff Dragon Boat Race.

Team Jaflon, featuring staff and family friends, are aiming to raise £1,000 for the charity Bobath Children's Therapy Centre Wales by competing in the boat race at Atlantic Wharf on September 9.

Jay Ali, manager of the restaurant on Albert Road, said: "It's going to be a fun day and we can't wait for it.

"It is fancy dress, so we might wear traditional dress or something like that.

"It's the first time we have done it, and we'll have friends and family coming down and supporting us on the day too."

During the challenge each team will take part in a minimum of three races over a 250-metre stretch of water, before the teams with the fastest times go through to the Grand Final.

Each boat has ten rowers and a drummer to keep the rhythm. Bobath Wales needs to raise £900,000 a year to run the Centre and provide ongoing specialist therapy to more than 350 children in Wales who have cerebral palsy.

To sponsor Team Jaflon in the Cardiff Dragon Boat Race, call in at the restaurant on Albert Road, where donations are being collected.
