Dinas Powys Brownies have the Red Hot recipe for success!

DINAS Powys Brownies cooked up a storm at the Red Hot World Buffet recently.

Budding baker Catrin Jones, from 6th Dinas Powys Brownies, found her recipe for success by winning a special cake-off at the restaurant in Cardiff on August 28. The eight-year old Brownie was picked top of her pack after her fruity, chocolaty and creamy creation impressed the judges.

The Brownies were given a cake making master class by Red Hot's head pastry chef Darshan Choudhari, before going head to head in the cake-off to see who could come up with the most imaginative and delicious creation.

The event was held to mark the launch of Red Hot World Buffet's new 'cake-away' service where customers can buy a range of home-made cakes to take away from the restaurant.

Catrin said: "I had a really fun time learning how to make the cakes and can't wait to get home to eat my own!"

Mr Choudhari, who has worked in some of the world's top restaurants, said: "The Brownies all did really well - I think I am going to watch out they don't want my job in a few years time!

"The standard was very high, and picking a winner was a tough decision. But, Catrin just edged it with her cake which was deliciously creamy and beautiful to look at as well."

The cake-off will count toward the Brownies cookery badge, part of which requires them to bake and decorate cakes, and share them with their fellow Brownies.

Hannah Grainger, Brown Owl for the 6th Dinas Powys Brownies, said: "I would like to say thank you to Red Hot World Buffet for organising this event - the pack had a great time and I think we have certainly seen some chefs in the making!"
