Police warning over spare wheel thefts in Penarth and Dinas Powys

POLICE in Penarth are advising owners of larger vehicles such as vans and 4x4s to make sure their external spare wheels are secured.

The advice follows the theft of two spare wheels from Land Rover Freelanders in St David’s Avenue, Dinas Powys, on the night of Tuesday, September 4, and the car park of Vennings, Penarth, on the morning of Wednesday, September 5.

Spare wheels are often held in position by a metal cage secured to the chassis, which thieves then cut to remove the wheel. Officers advise owners to consider installing security devices to make their vehicles less attractive to thieves.

Police urge residents to report any suspicious activity in the area by calling 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
