Craig Hopkins Memorial Cup: £3,000 raised at tournament is presented to Ysgol Erw'r Delyn

FUNDS raised by the 2012 Craig Hopkins Memorial Cup have been presented to this year's recipients - Ysgol Erw’r Delyn in Penarth.
The fundraising football tournament has been organised annually since Penarth teenager Craig died in 2004.
And his mum Andrea, along with two of his friends Scott Muir and Kevin Clarke, handed over a cheque for £3,000 to the school on Tuesday (September 18).
Last year, Erw’r Delyn shared the donation with neighbouring special school, Ashgrove, purchasing a mobility tool called an Acheeva poistioning bed.
Such was the value of the resource they said they would be buying another one with this year’s substantial donation.
School head Mike Farrell said: “It is used every day and benefits a large number of pupils here. It has proved invaluable and enhances their school experience tenfold.”
“We can’t thank Andrea, the rest of the organisers, and everyone involved, enough. The money is a godsend because we wouldn’t be able to provide these tools otherwise. We are so grateful.”
Andrea said she was delighted the donations were being put to such good use.
“We have always donated to local causes because we want the money to stay in the community,” she said.
“The tournament has always been a community event, and we want the money to follow that example.”
And despite earlier talk of next year’s tenth anniversary tournament being the last, Andrea said enthusiasm for the event showed no sign of disappearing and it would continue.
“It’s hard work but it’s worth it,” she added.
“It’s nice that so many people are committed to continuing Craig’s memory."
