New youth club: 'The Den' opens its doors tonight

The Den The Den

A BRAND new youth club for school years 7-11 opens its doors on Friday (September 28) at the Jubilee Hall, Sully.

The Den - which will will run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm every Friday, with an entry fee of £1 (tuck extra) - has been set up following requests from young people in Sully.

And now, with the help and support of local Councillors Bob Penrose and Kevin Mahoney, Sully Community Council and Residents Association, together with advice and support from the Vale Youth Service, the Community Police, and affiliation to CYP (Clubs for Young People) Wales, The Den will be run by a team of young people and adult volunteers (all CRB-checked).

Organisers said: "We’ve been busy preparing a programme of indoor and outdoor activities and are sure there’ll be great fun with something for everyone!

"Whether you just like to chill, play on the Wii, play table tennis, listen to music, or want more action playing footy, basketball, volleyball - or even sometimes a spot of sailing, horse riding, skate park fun or trips out - there's something for you.

"It's being run by the people, for the people in the locality – a community project with flare!"

The volunteers are currently applying for funding to help buy equipment, but if anyone has any games or suitable items that are no longer wanted, they would be delighted to add them to their stock! Contact 07870 206556.

"The Den's grand opening is this Friday, September 28, and we’re looking forward to live music from Brother Cubs to get us off to a good start," added a spokesperson.

"So don’t miss this exciting new event. We’re sure all young people will be glad of a new pad to call their own each Friday."

Doors open at 6.30pm - the first night will be free entry with free hot dogs and drink, with optional tuck to purchase. Subsequent weeks will be £1 entry.
