Cambrian Consort to perform in Penarth
4:50pm Sunday 30th September 2012 in News
VOCAL ENSEMBLE: The Cambrian Consort.
THE Cambrian Consort is a small, professional vocal ensemble, founded in 2011, to perform music composed before 1750.
It is the only ensemble of its type in Wales, and its next concert will celebrate the life and work of the great Welsh composer, Thomas Tomkins, who was born in Pembrokeshire in 1572. He was a pupil of William Byrd and a contemporary of Orlando Gibbons.
In spite of rising to be a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal and a prolific composer, he is little remembered in the land of his birth.
The Cambrian Consort will present Music Divine - The life and music of Thomas Tomkins: Wales' Forgotten Genius in St Augustine's Church, Penarth on Sunday, October 7 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £10 and will be available at the door on the night. More information can be found at www.cambrianconsort.org.uk
