More than £3,000 raised towards family holiday for Penarth-born Vikki Roberts

SMILES: Vikki Roberts (far let) and family enjoy an eventful day at the Glenbrook Inn.
A YOUNG mum from Penarth, who has an inoperable brain tumour, is being sent on a “family holiday of a lifetime” by loving friends and family - who have raised more than £3,000 towards the special trip.
Around 1,000 people from across the Vale turned out at the Glenbrook Inn, Barry, two weeks ago to raise money for Penarth-born mum-of-three Vikki Roberts.
The former Stanwell School pupil and St Garmon Road resident, 27, was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in January. Since then fundraising efforts have been under way to enable the family to take a holiday together.
Vikki’s mum, Melanie Roberts, said her daughter’s dream had always been to take her children - Caitlyn, nine, Alisha, seven, and two-and a half-year-old Jack, to Euro Disney in Paris.
“It would truly be the holiday of a lifetime for them all - full of precious lasting memories," saud Melanie.
“Vikki has been dealing with it brilliantly, but she is feeling so poorly at the moment and I think it may all be sinking in.”
Vikki, whose family lived at the former Billybanks when she was born and who now lives in Palmerston in Barry, spent the afternoon at the Glenbrook Inn event with friends and family.
The day featured stalls, face painting, a barbecue and entertainment, plus a raffle and auction with donated lots from Enzo Maccarinelli and Team GB's Olympic boxing team, Cardiff City, Cardiff Blues and Gwent Dragons. There was also support from St David's Hotel & Spa, Bridgend Butchers, the Selbys, Chuckles and Anthony's Bouncy Castles, Penarth Framers, and Barry town mayor Cllr Les Sword. Melanie added: "Vikki has been back at Velindre this week while they adjust her medication. She’s back home now but is a bit poorly at the moment.”
Glenbrook Inn manager Liam O'Leary said the money raised was ‘a credit to the local community and Vikki's friends’.
Other fundraising events are planned to increase the total for the holiday - including a sponsored walk by Vikki’s sister Emma Brock, and friend Lucy Burgoyne.
