DINAS Powys Rotary Club celebrates 25 years this year - and has invited top folk artists Diarmuid O'Leary and The Bards back to play for members again for their annual fundraising event.

In a return to the good old days of the 'Double A Side', Diarmuid O'Leary and The Bards, long established amongst Ireland's leading entertainers, have recently released two singles simultaneously.

Breaking the Line is a poignant ballad that is proving to be one of the highlights of the live show. The song tells the story of the plight of a small farmer who can no longer make a living from the land that has been handed down in his family for generations, and he is faced with the heartbreaking decision of having to sell the farm and so break the line of inheritance.

On the other side, The Cover of Ireland's Own came about quite unexpectedly after 'Ireland's Own' magazine did an extensive interview on Diarmuid's life and times and featured him on the front cover.

This inspired him to come up with the comedy song, a parody on the 1973 Dr Hook hit 'The Cover of the Rolling Stone' which was written by Shel Silverstein.

The two hour concert of music, song and humour, will be in the Parish Hall, Britway Road, Dinas Powys, on Thursday, 18 October. Doors will open at 7.30pm and there will be full bar facilities.

Parking is available around the village centre. Tickets are available from on 07850 607300 or 029 2051 5017.

* Over the past year the Dinas Powys Rotary Club has supported Llandough hospital with equipment, supplied local school leavers with encyclopaedias, sent local children to RYLA camp (a Rotary youth leadership course), and donated money to Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern for the local mini bus. They are also looking at supplying water pumps to Kenya where they built a bridge a few years ago.
