A PENARTH pensioner has donated more than £300 to Barry Hospital, as a thank you for the care they gave her late husband.
Joan Toye, who has been raising the money by crocheting baby shawls since the turn of the year, presented a new orthopaedic chair - purchased with the money - to the Neale Kent Ward last week.
The 91-year-old completed her task of raising money for the unit where her husband - former Penarth Councillor Harold Toye - was treated before he died in 2006, against all odds after a nasty fall at home left her with two dislocated wrists.
Undeterred, she soldiered on and said it had been worth all the effort to know that patients at the hospital would be more comfortable in the future.
"It's my way of saying thank you for the fantastic care they gave my husband," said the Redlands Avenue resident.
"Plus I might end up here myself before long, so that chair might turn out to be a very good investment!"
Deputy Sister on the ward Sue Dunsford said: "On behalf of the hospital and the Neale Kent Ward I would like to thank Mrs Toye for her generous donation. It is greatly appreciated."
