CHRISTIANS from Penarth, Carmarthenshire, Gwent and Bristol joined together to pray for an end to the arms trade at the annual prayer service outside BAe Systems factory at Glascoed near Usk.
There were prayers for the victims of the arms trade world-wide including the people of Ukraine, Palestine, Nigeria and other areas where conflict has been prolonged by the flow of arms. Political leaders and decision makers were also prayed for as were the manufacturers of weapons and all who share a responsibility for a society which is built on fear.
Prayers were said for a change of heart and for the money wasted on weapons to be spent on education, health and social welfare. Flowers were left outside the factory in memory of victims of conflict.
Campaign Against Arms Trade works to spread awareness of the enormous profits made from this business much of it subsidised by taxpayers.
