Extracts from the Penarth Times of December 30, 1966:

The "eleven-plus" examination will be held for the last time in Penarth in 1967, if a recommendation made at the South East Divisional Executive Committee this week is adopted.

St Cyres Bridge Club which meets at Penarth Secondary School, St Cyres Road at 7pm every Monday during the school term, starts again on January 9.

A successful children's party was held at the Llandough Institute last week, when entertainment included a film show and a magic performance. Each child received a gift from Father Christmas.

Llandough Guides and Brownies distributed gifts to local old age pensioners last week. Lucky recipients received presents such as tea, and attractive hand made calendars.

There was a large attendance at the carol service held at the church, when local youngsters presented a Nativity scene.

Boxing Day again proved the annual meeting of Old Penarthians and Penarth Athletic and, despite a gloomy morning, sufficient interest was aroused to attract a good crowd to Cwrt-y-Vil, including a large contingent of students from International House.

After three successive defeats, Penarth stormed back in tremendous form to beat current champions Caerphilly by 15 1/4 shots. The final score showed a margin of 21 shots, but the Penarth side had to forfeit 5 3/4 shots through fielding one man short.

In an unhappy start to the festive season, both first and second 15 succumbed to Christmas Eve defeats at the hands of their opponents on Saturday last.

The response to the Christmas Carol Service emphasised the support of members to the appeal to keep together while a new minister is sought.
