PENARTH ABC coach Neil Munn has issued a ‘zero tolerance’ warning to trouble-makers ahead of the club’s annual boxing event, which takes place this Saturday (December 6).

It is the fifth year the popular Fight Night has been held at Penarth Leisure Centre - but last year’s competition was marred when police were called to deal with drunken youths.

A security firm has been hired to stop problems at this year’s event, and Neil is warning that bad behaviour will not be tolerated.

He said: “We’ve brought in the best security we could afford to stop idiots from trying to ruin the night.

“Anyone who is found to be drinking underage, or who is bringing alcohol in, will be asked to leave immediately without a refund.

“The same goes for the people who hang around outside the leisure centre.

“If they start causing trouble they will be told to move on.

“There's some fantastic fights on the bill and we've got a new PA system too,” added Neil.

“I want the law abiding people to be able to enjoy what is sure to be a great night.”

Inspector Mark Taylor, of Penarth Neighbourhood Police, said: “We welcome Mr Munn’s approach to the organisation of the boxing evening and hope it is an enjoyable and successful occasion.”

There are 12 fights scheduled - with Commonwealth Bronze medalist Keiron Harding topping the bill in a bout against Tiger Bay ABC man, Martin Woodward. An ex-Four Nations British champion, Woodward is the more experienced fighter.

Welsh and British champions Kieron Pring, Ryan Thompson, Jake Harris and Danny Dyer are also in action, and there are debut fights for Liam Hudd, Jake Andrews and Jordan Rhaman.

Tickets for the night, which gets underway at 8pm, cost £10 and are available from Penarth Leisure Centre.
