RUMOURS of a Subway restaurant opening in Penarth town centre have been denied by a spokesman for the fast food chain.
Work is currently under way on the former Wine Rack off-licence on Windsor Road and many Penarthains believed the shop was being converted into a branch of the fast food sandwich outlet.
But a spokesman for Subway told the Penarth Times: “It is true that we are looking to open a Subway in Penarth or the surrounding area.
“But we have not found a suitable location yet and we are not working on this particular shop.”
Meanwhile work is continuing at the former Woolworths store on Windsor Road, where a new branch of Sainsburys is due to open.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council granted the supermarket giant a premises licence for the sale of alcohol last month - and a downscaled version of the company's larger shops is expected to be launched in late January.
