YOUNGSTERS from three Penarth schools were put through their skating paces by the Cardiff Devils, when they visited Cardiff Ice Rink last week.
Some 30 children from year six at St Joseph's and Evenlode Primary Schools and year seven at St Cyres were the guests of the Devils Community Foundation (DCF) on Wednesday, November 25.
They were given an exclusive chance to skate on the famous rink in a trip organised through the Penarth Neighbourhood Policing Team.
Head of the DCF, Brent Pope said: "The DCF has a strong working relationship with organisations such as South Wales Police, and wants to continue to build on these successful associations.
"As a former Cardiff Devils player, I believe the Foundation can play a vital role in building positive relationships within local communities that will benefit everyone.
"Ice Hockey is a family sport that has always attracted a wide demographic of people. One of the secrets to the club's success in South Wales since its inception has been the positive relationship that the players and the club have had within the community as local role models.
"This is what the DCF is all about and we are continuing to build on this."
Penarth Neighbourhood PCSO Michelle Griffiths said: "We are very grateful to DCF for making this trip possible.
"As well as learning about the Cardiff Devils, the children were able to take to the ice themselves.
"The day was capped off when we joined hundreds of other school children from across South Wales to watch a fantastic league match against Newcastle Vipers, which the Devils won 8-3."
A club spokesman said: "The Cardiff Devils are proud of the work of the Devils Community Foundation as the club's official charity.
"Under the leadership of Brent Pope. it is ensuring the Devils engage, cultivate and re-connect strong relationships within the community of South Wales."
