A MUM-OF-TWO from Penarth is hoping to be crowned the Biggest Loser - as part of a weight loss challenge on a national radio station!
Vicky Dimond, of Laburnam Way, has signed up to be part of the five-week Real Radio weight loss competition as she bids to get in shape for the Cardiff Half Marathon.
Vicky, 27, is a member of Real Breakfast Show presenter Angela Jay’s team, who are going head-to-head with a group of four slimmers led by Real Drive Home host Dave Brookes.
Each week team members weigh in at the Real Radio studios in Morganstown, Cardiff, and record their progress with online blogs.
The winning team will be the one that has lost the most combined weight, with a £200 prize up for grabs for each slimmer.
Despite the potential cash windfall, Vicky says her main motivation is getting fit for the 13-mile road race through the capital on October 17. “I don’t want to keel over half-way through the Cardiff Half Marathon,” she said.
“I thought someone was being cheeky when it was first suggested I get involved in the Biggest Loser.
“I’m a very determined woman, but it’s been great to have the competition to help keep me focused on losing weight.
“I want to lose a stone and the pressure of having to weigh-in live on air has certainly helped keep my focus!”
Vicky is using her new-found fame - and her half marathon challenge - to raise money for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Hospice in Penarth, in memory of her grandfather Bernard Jenkins.
“He’s the inspiration,” added Vicky, who works as a carer in Penarth.
“He died from liver cancer in 2008 but I know he would be very proud of what I’m doing.”
