AT the Penarth and District Lesotho Trust AGM, there was a lively presentation by four students from St Cyres School with their teacher Mr Huw Thomas.

They related some of the adventures of the party from St Cyres who went on the World Challenge in 2011, which included travelling and camping in Lesotho and helping in schools.

Following their report of a 'life-changing experience', the meeting recalled the visit by the trustees and friends who went to Lesotho in April 2011, and of their plans to repeat the trip in February 2013. Anyone interested should consult with the PADLT secretary.

Plans are in place for the next visit of Mrs Lesley Cox to lead another group of students and staff from Ystrad Mynach College in March.

Mrs Cox was appointed Chair of PADLT for the coming year, following in the footsteps of her husband the Rev Peter Cox, Vicar of All Saints. Both have been to Lesotho many times with Mrs Cox the most frequent visitor from PADLT, having been twice in 2010.

On the next visit by students from Stanwell School, they will be accompanied by Sara Jones, a Trustee, who went with the first Stanwell group as a student and came back so moved and inspired that she has since worked very hard for PADLT, returning to Lesotho many times. This group will visit in August.

Nigel Gibbs, former Mayor of Penarth, was elected Vice Chair. A bio-chemist in Llandough Hospital, he is another frequent visitor to Lesotho and concentrates his efforts with hospitals and health centres - very challenging work.

The following officers were re-elected: Jeremy Dix - Secretary; Dil Samuel - Treasurer; Rosemary Dix - Membership Secretary; Keith Howells - Publicity; and Sara Cox and Rev Peter Cox as Trustees.

Howard England has resigned as a Trustee but will maintain contact with PADLT and will continue to give his expertise, as a former head gardener of Dyffryn Gardens, in the Plant Sale on Saturday, May 26.

Mrs Tracey Graham was elected to join the group as a Trustee. She became involved as a parent with the Stanwell visit of 2010 and has worked hard fundraising since then, and assisting in the planned August visit.

Planned fundraising events are a concert with the City of Cardiff Symphony Orchestra in Stanwell Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 18; and the Annual Fun Run in Cosmeston on Saturday, May 12.
