Residents in Penarth and the Vale of Glamorgan are being encouraged to take more care with their possessions as the warmer weather has at last arrived.
The reminder comes from the Vale of Glamorgan Police following a recent spate of thefts of trainers and shoes left outside front doors or in unsecured porches.
Dick Collins, Crime Prevention Officer for the area and based in Barry police station, said: "We have recently had a number of reports of thefts of trainers and other foot-ware from front steps and unlocked porches.
"I would encourage people to take more responsibility for their possessions and not to leave them where they can be easily taken.
"Many burglaries occur on the spur of the moment as a burglar may see an opportunity and take their chance.
"Trainers and shoes are very expensive items and should not be left where they can be easily taken.
"Always leave your shoes and other possessions in a secure place.
"A simple precaution such as this can save a lot of heartache and inconvenience in the long run."
