GAMBLING establishments in the Vale of Glamorgan have had their Gaming Licences checked recently as part of a planned inspection programme, to ensure that they are abiding by the new Gambling Act regulations as they prepare for the summer period.
Earlier this month South Wales Police Licensing, in liaison with the Local Authority Licensing Section, carried out inspections of the 27 licensed gambling establishments in the county to ensure compliance under the new regime of the Gambling Act.
The 2005 Act establishes a single integrated system for licensing premises, issuing permits and promoting the three Licensing Objectives which are:
Preventing Gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime
Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way, and
Protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling
South Wales Police Licensing officer for the Vale of Glamorgan, PC Dave Barrett, said: "The aim is to ensure that everybody involved in the licensing regime is focused on common goals, essential to the fair balance of differing interests and the well being of our communities in relation to licensable activities."
