Calling for clarity

IT IS time for the public to have a clear picture of the latest position regarding the Vale council’s local development plan. Regular readers will know the council is planning 10,000 houses many in the Penarth, Sully, Dinas Powys, Llandough and Barry region.

In April during the council elections promises were made to ‘scrap the LDP and consult to produce a sustainable alternative’, by Labour, the winners of the election.

This phrase was highlighted in election literature.

Since then there has been a deafening silence about the status of the plans.

There has been a meeting between leading Labour councillors and the Labour minister for planning but no report has been presented to the public detailing the discussions.

When questioned at council by Plaid Cymru, dismissive and unhelpful answers were given. We have now been told the draft plan is being reviewed but what this means in reality is not explained.

Now according to official Government notes of the meeting the councillors told the minister there was no desire to start the LDP plan process again; rather the issue was the refinement of the current plan.

This is different to the Labour pledge to ‘Scrap the LDP’.

The LDP is unsustainable and Plaid Cymru calls for the current proposals that will create huge traffic problems to be withdrawn.

In addition we need clarity from local Labour AMs on their position on this vital issue.
