THE Police Commissioner election was a costly fiasco.

It is probably a good idea that we can vote for or against certain public officials, but only if we have an informed electorate. I received no information about the job and no information on the candidates and I did not feel able to cast an informed vote. Most people I know felt the same, so, with a miniscule turnout, how can the winner claim a mandate to do the job?

They might just as well have let a monkey pick a name out of a hat – and it would have cost only a pack of peanuts.
