Dithering on traveller site

I READ with interest the letter from Cllr Michael Garland (Penarth Times, December 27) titled “Lives in danger” concerning the traveller site – unofficial – at the former Civic Amenity Site at Hayes Road, Sully.

He states that the Vale Council “were asked to remove the development of a traveller camp out of the LDP and proceed with it as a separate issue in order to speed things up, but this request was refused.”

This is news to me, having followed this issue closely in relation to both Sully and Llangan.

It appears that procrastination has taken over again.

The council, so says Cllr Garland, hope that the new development plan will be “available for consultation in late autumn 2013” while it will be “a further year before (it)… is implemented”.

So once again the question of a traveller site, urgently needed, disappears in a flurry of consultation and into the proverbial long grass, deferred again until when?

Meanwhile the residents of Sully fume, the “New Age” (not Romany) travellers consolidate their occupation, and no one emerges satisfied. What price democracy?
