Penarth Pier Penarth Pier on a winter morning

I stroll through verdant Alexandra Gardens to the mellifluous sound of church bells then the sea of Penarth greets my eyes coloured blue, mirroring the February sky with a shard of brilliant silver.

The pier is receiving a facelift though its glory years are now far behind, Victorian crowds spring into my mind as I descend, well trodden steps following ghosts to the seashore over the pebbled beach I remember being so much grander when I was a child.

Just a young woman talking to her dog enjoys the beach on this bracing day the tide sizzling around my feet like snow as I listen to the sea and wind blow.
