Dambusters raid hero remembered

ALTHOUGH I live in Barry I picked up a copy of the Penarth Times (September 26 issue) and on the front page was coverage of the Dambusters Raid Hero and the room 617 by Penarth Arts & Crafts Ltd, in Guy Gibson’s memory.
This was of particular interest to me, as I grew up in a village called Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire and the hotel in the street where I lived called The Petwood has a museum room of the officers mess. As a child I continually nagged my parents to take me to see the photos of Guy Gibson’s dog Nigger (yes I know a politically incorrect name). But I had no idea Guy Gibson had connections with Penarth and as I was a social worker in Penarth I felt a sense of serendipity prevailing!
