I WAS disappointed to read the front page coverage of plans contained in the draft LDP, to create traveller site facilities on the outskirts of Sully.
I was also disappointed to read about the weak leadership demonstrated by community leaders faced with people expressing unfounded fears.
When all is said and done we are talking about the future use of land that has until recently been a waste management site. It is opposite a huge industrial site and in the shadow of chemical works linked to the company responsible for the disaster at Bhopal.
And yet people in Sully are worried that a handful of people living an alternative lifestyle will ruin tourism and cause the collapse of property prices. I think the fears are unfounded. But spare a thought for the families already living on the land referred to and the hostile atmosphere that is created locally by those who would exploit people's natural concern about future use for the site for what they see as political advantage. Come on Penarth Times. We deserve more balanced reporting on something as important as strategic planning.
