Family cat shot with an air rifle

MY beautiful ginger and white cat went missing from home on Sunday 12 October. My family and I spent the next 2 days looking for him as we were all devastated to think that he might have been run over. Alfie is 14 months old and does not usually stray away from our local area.
Alfie came home two days later and we were all thrilled to see him back. He appeared dishevelled and tired. I later began to feel that there was something seriously wrong with him as he was unable to eat and just lay under my bed away from everything.
I took Alfie to the vet and it was discovered that the poor boy had been shot with an air rifle! The pellet had gone into his stomach and was still lodged there causing a massive infection.
After an operation in Sanatorium Road he was kept in for 4 nights and 5 days it was touch and go as to whether he would have the strength to recover and it was pitiful to see him so poorly with a drain still in place to try to clear the infection from his tiny body. Today I was able to bring him home.
The damage that has been done to my family, close neighbours and I will take a long time to heal. A huge vet bill to pay and the upset involved is too much to bear.
How anybody could be so cruel to such a lovely affectionate animal is beyond belief. Words almost fail me but I had to write and say what has happened in an attempt to make the perpetrator think about their appalling action. Defenceless animals are not there for target practice you horrible excuse for a human being.
