Penarth Pier Pavilion
12:01pm Tuesday 29th October 2013 in Letters
I WROTE this poem on behalf of The Penarth Civic Society in recognition of all the hardwork and success brought by the Penarth Pier Pavilion Project to the area.
The Pier Pavilion 2013
What a joyful sight!
The sunlight dazzles and glitters
Off the Pavilion’s great barrelled roof
With its pagoda styled canopies
Propped up by cliff-like walls -
So romantic yet bizarre!
Re-energised from Art Deco times
The Pavilion proudly stands;
As yachts bob about with the Waverley
Or Balmoral moored offshore.
The esplanade has been transformed
From ugly duckling to graceful swan
Becoming the place to be:
For people just like you and me.
So congratulations to all concerned
For soldiering on despite setbacks -
Big and small that the work-force faced,
The triumph is yours.
You did it - and on behalf
Of The Penarth Civic Society,
Congratulations once more
And grateful thanks.
