LET'S hope Cllr Mahoney, in his reincarnation as a traveller, doesn't take to dying his hair ginger, putting on a Christmas pullover and driving round Sully in a flat bed Ford, cold calling on the elderly and vulnerable to tell them their gutters need cleaning, that he's just 'found' a problem with the roof that'll cost 10 grand to fix, or more, cash please. Or maybe he should so everybody gets the idea of what he's standing up for them against.
Nobody's really concerned about the alternative lifestyle travellers are currently occupying at the site, but they won't last two minutes when they turn up - the people who exploit the aged we read about in the papers, in their so called 'gardening' and 'drive laying' vans with untraceable 0800 numbers.
Any attempt to report crimes of this nature will be dismissed as a matter for the Council Trading Department, but don't complain to loudly or you'll be accused of 'travellerphobia' or hate crimes etc.
Sully is in the unusual position of having a councillor in Mr Mahoney, who's standing up for them, in such situations most politicos normally run for cover, re emerging when it's to late to do anything, urging us to embrace diversity, celebrate culture, etc.
It's a shame these people can't celebrate our culture, declare wages, pay tax etc.
Anyway Sully's fortunate to have a champion sticking his neck out on this, so let's hope he gets the support he deserves from everybody.
