I WAS| really disappointed to learn, a few days ago, of the closure of the Spar food shop in Windsor Road.
I made quite regular use of this store, mainly to buy newspapers when they opened at 7am, and other items too on occasion.
Overall they may not have been the cheapest grocery shop but they did have some very attractive special offers on goods like bread.
My shopping is actually spread between a number of stores in Penarth - Sainsbury and the Co-op featuring quite prominently, not to mention Tesco in Herbert Terrace.
My recollections of the (now closed) Spar shop are positive, of a very friendly and helpful staff, men and women, so that I do regret the closure.
Choice and competition in the town of Penarth are diminished just a little thereby
