PENARTH and District Quilters (PDQ) will be holding their summer exhibition at the Paget Rooms in Victoria Road, Penarth, on Thursday, July 17, when some 40 quilts will be on display, together with smaller wall-hangings, cushions, and other sewing-related projects.

The doors open at 11am sharp. This year we are supporting two local charities.

Proceeds from the exhibition will be sent to Noah's Road2Recovery Fund. Noah is a little boy who lives in Barry and earlier last year, at the age of just eight months, he contracted meningitis which resulted in his left leg having to be amputated just below the knee.

The money raised will help with the cost of Noah's treatment and providing him with prosthetic legs, which he will need as often as he needs new shoes as he is growing up.

Our second charity this year is Down's Syndrome Cymru. Last autumn we lost a treasured member of PDQ, Miss Elin Davies, who spent her life teaching generations of Penarth children. To honour Elin's memory, we have made a beautiful group quilt which is being raffled to raise money for one of Elin's special charities.

Raffle tickets will be available at the exhibition, or can be ordered from me on 029 2070 1876, and the draw will take place in November this year.

All handcrafts have been experiencing an exciting resurgence in the past few years so we not only look forward to sharing our work with old friends, but to making new ones too.

In addition to our hugely popular sales table we shall have a books and magazine table, a fabric tombola stall, as well as a display of small quilts made for the Neo-Natal Unit at Bridgend Hospital.

The entrance fee is £2.50 which includes coffee or tea and a generous slice of cake.
