ON Thursday my wife and I were lucky to attend a presentation by the the first year intake in the assembly hall at Fairfield School.

Every child in their first year, including my grandson gave a personal account in front of a packed audience of proud parents, grandparents and friends, of attributes they had learnt during their first year in school.

Isn't it ironic that whilst the majority of schools were on strike that we were able to have such an enjoyable morning seeing how the children were progressing.

At the completion of the ceremony we were treated to an array of cakes and goodies provided by the parents which I think demonstrates how everyone contributes to the well being of the school.

Can I sincerely thank the head teacher and all her staff that made the effort to keep the school open for us to have such a special day.
