THE Marie Curie Hospice Annual garden party went ahead last Saturday, even with an unexpected deluge of rain, thunder and lightning half way through the afternoon, and it was great to still have such fantastic support from local people who turned up regardless of the weather and helped us raise over £2000 with more money still to come in.

The event was opened by Matt Johnson-TV presenter- who had a great time meeting local people and also visiting some patients and saying a thank you to the wonderful nursing staff at the hospice.

The usual stalls such as cakes and books did a great trade as did the Rotary Club’s bottle stall and everyone enjoyed the jazz band playing ‘You are my sunshine’ in one of the heaviest downpours of the afternoon!

The fundraising team would like to say thank you to all local businesses for the many raffle prizes, Welsh Brothers catering butchers for the donation of a Hog roast, Roadchef Magor for providing all refreshments and RAF St Athan for providing tables and the manpower to put them up on the day! We also want to say a huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers on the day- we really couldn’t do it without this wonderful help.

We also still have a bottle of champagne here for the lucky programme winner (Number 134) and if anyone has that please do call into the Fundraising office to claim your prize.

Our next event is Walk Ten at Margam Park on Saturday, August 16. If anyone would like to come along to that please visit mariecurie.org.uk/margam or if interested in finding out more about this or volunteering roles at the hospice please call 02920 426068 .

Thank you
