IN RESPONSE to a number of inquiries following last week’s Penarth Times article reporting on the proposed six month suspension handed to former chairman of Sully and Lavernock Community council Lino Scaglioni.

I would like to make clear that my recent resignation from the community council was not because of the unacceptable actions of Mr Scaglioni in circulating inappropriate emails over a period of time to community councillors and the general public which the Standards committee judged to be offensive behaviour, as anyone who knows me will confirm, I am not the sort of person who can be bullied into silence.

My resignation is because I refuse to be associated with any actions or decisions made by an organisation I consider to be inept and incompetent.

As a continuing Vale of Glamorgan Councillor I am pleased that my actions in challenging the lapses and culture of poor basic health and safety practices within this community council has ensured that the safety of all users of the sports pavilion is ensured following my insistence on a full inspection of the buildings.

This inspection revealed 18 ‘At Risk’ categories out of the 24 inspected, which have now been addressed.

The irony of this situation is that local residents will now be paying the resultant Health and Safety Executive financial charge levied on the council following its investigation.

Considering this I’m sure residents will understand my reticence to be associated with the actions of Sully and Lavernock Community council but can be fully assured that I will continue to monitor the council's safety performance as Vale councillor representing Sully and Lavernock.
