LAST week’s settlement set the financial picture for the Vale council over the next few years. It was a disappointing settlement from the Welsh Labour Government and there is no doubt that local services will be placed under huge strain, with funding slashed by millions of pounds.

I understand that the Vale council has now launched a public survey to help them to better understand the services which you value as residents. It is vital that people have their say because there is little doubt that these swingeing cuts will pose significant challenges here in the Vale.

Recent comments by the Labour/Llantwit First administration appear to suggest that this consultation could have a significant impact on future spending plans.

Sadly, while Labour continue to waste money on pet projects like Cardiff Airport, office refurbishments and the T9, councils the length and breadth of Wales are being forced to deal with significant cuts to their budgets.

Clearly the future just became significantly more challenging but it is vital that residents take the opportunity to have their say.
