ONE reads of criticisms and complaints about our hospital services but there is also another side to the coin. During the morning of October 16, the day of our Diamond Wedding Anniversary, I had the misfortune to suffer a stroke.

The doctor’s phone was engaged so my wife dialled 999 and within minutes paramedics were at the door and took charge. An ambulance was summoned and I was soon in the Stroke Unit at the Heath Hospital and receiving treatment.

I would like, through these columns, to publicly thank my wife for her vigilance and devotion, the paramedics and ambulance crew for their response and the Stroke Unit, for giving me back my life.
