ON behalf of the participating sponsors, may I thank all the good people of Penarth and District, and indeed those from further afield, for their generous support of the Fireworks Fiesta held at the Athletic Field to celebrate November 5.

The weather this year was as perfect as could be wished for and undoubtedly contributed to the success of the event, which attracted a record attendance of over 4,000. The display provided its customary continuous spectacle of aerial and ground fireworks culminating with its usual climactic finale of colour and sound.

As in the past, the proceeds will be applied for charitable purposes. Our thanks are also due to Sergeant Aled Jones and the many South Wales Police officers for their presence and the sense of security that presence undoubtedly provides.

Also, to our Town mayor, Cllr and Mrs Martin Turner, for their supportive presence and assisting with judging the Guy Competition, which unfortunately attracted just one excellent entry year which was duly awarded first prize of £20.

Thanks are also due to the council’s highways and transportation department for kindly lending and placing traffic cones to ensure and maintain clear access to the ground in the event of emergency.

We anticipate continuing the event next year and hopefully, with the continued support of the people of Penarth and District in our endeavours.

Finally, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Penarth and our co-sponsors, Penarth Round Table and Penarth RFC, our thanks to the Vale of Glamorgan council for their kind permission to use the Athletic Field and for their continued financial support of the event.
